Bob Dylan has been known to steal lyrics, but now he’s being accused of stealing from other peoples’ photos.
Dylan’s most recent exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in New York was said to be a first hand depiction of his travels through Asia, a literal “visual journal”. The show opened on the 20th, and almost as soon as the doors opened, fans were scratching their heads while staring at Dylan’s work. Somehow, these pieces looked strangely familiar. Criticism came in hard and fast at Dylan, he was copying other famous artists’ works.
It was quickly pointed out that Dylan had just painted his version of famous photographs, including one image form a cover of LIFE Magazine. See for yourself, look at this photo by Léon Busy entitled Indochine.

Now compare it (below) to Dylan’s work he named Opium. Look familiar?

One fan has even leveled accusations at Dylan for copying photos from his Flickr page. Likewise, even more complaints have arisen saying Dylan did the same scam in 2010, for his Danish exhibition. The museum soon had to change the wording describing the exhibition; instead of Dylan’s “visual journal”, it was re-labeled his “visual reflections”. Fans and critics have listed several pieces he has been accused of plagiarizing, including Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Dmitri Kessel.
